Context of the Organization
Established in 1949, SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organization to which all SOS Children’s Villages including SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland Association is affiliated. SOS Children’s Villages International (SOS CVI) is a non-governmental and non-denominational organization working with communities, partners and states to ensure that the rights of all children fulfilled in every society. SOS CVI is a global federation working to protect and care for children who have lost parental care, or who stand at risk of losing the care. Everything we do is made possible through generous support of sponsors and donors, institutional and corporate partners and loyal friends worldwide.

Position outline
The Funding Development Manager works with the National Director and the Program Team to mobilize institutional funding for SOS CV Somaliland. He/she develops and implements institutional partnership strategies and is a key contributor to the growth of the funding portfolio as well as day-to-day donor relationship management with bilateral donors, international organizations, governmental institutions, embassies, and any other national or international organization concerned.
The incumbent is integral to supporting the design, funding, and monitoring of institutional grants
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develop, implement, and evaluate the fundraising strategy.
Ü Set the strategic direction for fundraising in support of SOS Children’s Villages Somaliland.
Ü Prepare a thorough fundraising plan indicating concrete actions and targets to be achieved on an annual basis.
Ü Provide advice to the National Director on opportunities for increasing the public profile of SOS Children’s Villages Somaliland’s potential funding and sponsorship opportunities from philanthropic foundations, trusts, the community, business, corporate, government sectors, and individuals.
Ü Responsible for the national fundraising activities of SOS Children’s Villages Somaliland.
Ü Evaluate and review the fundraising strategy at least every two years.
2. Coordinate and manage fundraising activities within SOS-Somaliland.
Ü Provide an outline of medium-term priorities and financial forecasts quarterly.
Ü Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan and budget with comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and yearly budgets and financial projections, highlighting the needs and amounts required.
Ü Preparing the detailed revenue and expense reports for all fundraising events after the event is completed
Ü Evaluate activities against key performance indicators and use the information gained to improve and raise net income.
Ü Document and keep records, databases, results, and experiences of all associations with funding organizations and companies to ensure continuity and inform future decisions and actions.
Ü Search and research potential donors and foundations to identify and evaluate potential funding sources.
Ü Manage the local donors and sponsors for the sustainability of local fundraising
Ü Will be the One Friend Objective leader.
Ü Build and maintain profitable, long-term fundraising relationships with current donors and potential donors.
- Responsible for the preparation and submission of the proposals for the acquisition of the grants/funds within the following frames.
Ü Donor funding environment: Proactively identify grant funding opportunities by developing detailed knowledge of regional and country-level donor environment and funding mechanisms, keeping abreast with changes in the funding landscape
Ü Donor guidelines: Develop and maintain familiarity with and detailed understanding of donor calls for proposals, guidelines, and procedures, including eligibility requirements, for specific donors and their funding schemes
Ü Grant applications: work with colleagues in National Offices to develop and submit high-quality concept notes and proposals on behalf of the National Association, managing the application process with support from the National Director.
- Public Relations and communication.
Ü Develop and implement public relations for SOS Somaliland, ensuring that all communication is consistent, based on the same global brand framework stressing our roots, vision, mission and values.
Ü Provide public relations and media support for particular public events and handle all complaints or queries from the public as directed by the National Director.
Ü Attend presentation requests made by corporations, individual groups, and members of the diplomatic corps.
Ü Support and take a lead role in any special fundraising or public relations activities and events that concern the National Association’s facilities.
Ü Develop and produce publications, including reports, articles, pamphlets, and brochures, to promote SOS CVs Somaliland and its activities. Ensure that adequate stocks of public relations and marketing support materials are available for inclusion in fundraising proposals and distribution.
Ü Ensure that informative letters and gratitude notes are frequently sent to local individual and corporate sponsors, donors, and partners on time.
Ü Ensure that the villages regularly submit articles to the National Office for inclusion in newsletters and pamphlets. Ensure that all messages to the media or any other body reflect the image/standards required by the organization.
Ü Networking: Build contacts and relationships with other NGOs and local CSOs to learn from, share, and apply best practices in the acquisition and management of grant
- Build and develop a committed and effective fundraising team.
Ü Work with all management staff to ensure support and effectiveness in fundraising activities.
Ü Educate all staff on how their interaction with potential and existing supporters influences the SOS Children’s Somaliland.
- Accountability
Ü Work closely with the facility heads to ensure that funds and donations received in kind are recorded and dealt with as necessary.
Ü Ensure that SOS Children’s Villages Somaliland fundraising costs remain below 25% of total fundraising income by keeping administration costs attributed to fundraising and public relations activities as low as possible while at the same time expanding fundraising efforts and revenue.
Ü Maintain constant contact with local sponsors, keeping them informed of developments and activities within the National Association. Build a long-term relationship with donors by nurturing their engagement and trust in the impact of our work.
Ü Responsible for the development and implementation of the donations-in-kind guidelines and the achievement of the overall budgeted income from donations-in-kind
- Support of local and international sponsorship
Ü Support in coordination and ensure the Smooth flow of local sponsor Correspondence
Ü Provides Good Relationships with Local Sponsors
Ü Develop & Fulfills the Requirements of the Local Sponsorship MA set guidelines of funding procedures.
- Safeguarding:
Ü At all times fundraising, avoid actions or behavior that could be construed as poor or potentially abusive practice. Whatever decisions and actions are taken should be in the best interest of the child in mind.
Skills and qualifications
The Fund Development Manager of SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland should have the following educational background Experience and skills set to perform the required jobs under the job description.
- MBA preferred in business, marketing, public relations or related field.
- Seven (7) years of professional development and fundraising experience.
- Advanced PC skills and expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Donor database experience desirable).
- An understanding of budgets and financial reporting.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision – self-motivated & confident
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work well with people from all backgrounds with varying degrees of experience.
- Ability to inspire, train, motivate, challenge, and supervise volunteers.
- Confident in public speaking and able to express ideas verbally and in writing.
- Fundraising code of ethics, Competency in MS Office/Excel/Word/PPT
