Overview of position
- Somalia Urban Resilience Project II (SURP II) is a municipal governance & infrastructure development project financed by the World Bank (WB) & its partners, aimed at improving access to urban infrastructure & strengthening municipal governance in Somalia.
- Maintaining of the material testing laboratory in good order with timely calibration of the material testing equipment & maintaining adequate stocks of supplies.
- Organize & conduct the field & laboratory tests as per the applicable specifications in order to support the material selection & construction quality control activities as directed by the Resident Engineer.
- Proper records keeping of the material tests performed, tests results & reports & sharing with the Material Engineer for review & advice.
- Support the capacity building of the client nominated staff through on the job training & knowledge sharing.
- Perform other related duties as directed by the Resident Engineer.
Expected outputs include but are not limited to:
- Performing all required testing.
- Recording all results as per our clients standards.
Project reporting
The Laboratory Assistant will be working under the supervision of the Laboratory Technician.
Key competencies
- BSc or an advanced diploma in civil engineering related area is required.
- A post graduate qualifications in a technical area relevant to the position is desirable.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in material testing for civil engineering construction activities.
- Familiarity with the material testing standards & specifications used in Eastern Africa.
- Working experience in Somalia is desirable.
- Excellent command of the English & Somali languages (oral & written) are required.

This role has no team management responsibility.
